We finished our digital modeling and now we are able to take the dimensions and put them into CAD. We have our boards in progress and Kirsten is working on our technical drawings.

I am playing with the facade of the building and trying to create sun shades to cover the south and south west walls. I pulled out the roof line and wall line on the main entry space to block the south west sun. Not sure if we are happy with the south west wall yet though. I haven't done anything with the complete grey wall.

Progress...

Kirsten and I have finally caught up with the schedule. We have our floor plans and sections all in Revit. The only thing we have to still look at is the facade of the business wing. We are assuming that it is going to be a continuous curtain wall, but we have to look at sun screens. The sun screens will be very important, since we are facing south and down in Crowley, Louisiana.

Studio...

Alright...
We are working on putting our plans into Revit. I have extended the back of the research wing to conjoin with the business wing. We still can't decide what the business wing will look like, so we are going to put that on hold.

Weekend Trip to Canada

This past weekend I took a trip up to Canada for a snow sculpture symposium. So I put off studio and enjoyed some time off. Here are some pictures of the sculptures.

Here is my idea of what the center corridor/entrance could be. Reflecting the research wind at the same time creating a center axis for the office wing.

pin-ups tomorrow

For tomorrow we have pin-ups... I hope for tomorrow I have gotten an idea for the main entrance part of our building. I think it is going to relate to the research wing of the building. The entrance will look all the way through the building looking out to our main inspiration, which is the grids in the plots.

needs work!!

I am not sure how I like the part of the building in white... I don't know how well it connects to the other section of the building. Do you have any ideas Kirsten? I think the research wing relates back to our plots in a strong way, but the other wing needs more thought and relation back to the plots.

Process

SketchUp Model

Here is the start of the model... I am not sure what the other part wants to be yet, but I think that is the foot print that would line up with the plots.

Alrighttttttt..... I made some cubes and played with different ways of stacking them. I think they would be three high for one floor. This image in my head would be extremely abstract compared to the town, which I think would bring some diversity to the architecture of Crowley. I am going to do a sketchup model instead of continuing with the chip board. Hopefully things go quicker that way and will show more of the rest of the building all put together.

Live Feed...

Thinking about going extremely literal with the grid system for the facade. I haven't been able to run the idea by my partner, so I am just going to make a model and see what it looks like.

Process

Working with some forms and trying to come up with a design. My partner is gone on a trip to Canada to build a snow structure!! So going to be emailing a lot back and forth trying to get something figured out and decided on for a form.

These sketch models are forms that are being pulled off our test plots. Arrangement and form still needs work.

Power Point Slides...

Ag Research Tour

Today during studio we took a tour on a new ag research center on the NDSU campus. It was very helpful for this next project with layout and different areas throughout the building. I did think though that the building lacked egress exiting, but they said it was to keep the building more secure being that it was a high security building. When it comes down to safety though I think that security can always be found using a different solution.

Progress

Today we went over progress thus far. Kirsten and I decided to relocate our site for various issues. We just moved right to the west of our site in Crowley, LA. Our crop is rice, which needs ample amounts of water to survive. The water also helps keep the weeds from growing.
In rice farming the fields are laid out in a grid form to allow for the water to run throughout the field. For studio today we were supposed to start will 3 concepts and discuss them in a pin-up. Kirsten and I focused on how the field was laid out rather than the rice plant. Taking the grid from the field layout, we probably will use a grid system to create a layout in plan or elevation. In further thinking, looking at the rice plant and how the rice is actually stacked onto of each other while still being on the stalk might push the design also.
