Production Week Starts!!

My floor plans are done in the design sense. I am putting them into Revit to show present them. I don't think at this point I will be doing a complete Revit model. I still need to figure out how I am going to graphically present all of my information. A lot to do in the next week, but hoping for a clean presentation.

On the way home from Milwaukee and Chicago... Amazing time and amazing architecture... Now back to studio to finish this project up.

Saturday, April 17, 2010

I have been working with floor plans over and over again getting egress, flow, accessibility, and privacy to work all together. I think that I have it all figured it out and now I have debated on whether to put it into Revit or not. I have my sketch up model still going, so now I just need to figure out what I am going to do for finals.

The newest form that I have created... I was concerned about the neighboring building and the light that would be blocked from my previous sketches, so I went to this which would allow more light in through the west.

Working on the Multi-Use Lofts... Playing with individual separation within one. Thinking about concrete and how the sustainability of concrete can go along way.

Seeking...

We just got done discussing in our location groups about the "seeking" step. I have been looking at the stairway of the building behind our site. I am playing with subtraction and pushing/pulling to see how it can create a form.

Start of a new project

I decided to go with project B, which is the studio spaces on University. The weekend was busy with state basketball games in the cities, so you can guess how much I got done. This week I need to get three design concepts going and for Wednesday an accumulation of information for the site, program, and other info.

Biker Bar...

The biker bar is now complete and turned in. I will admit I had the hardest time with this project. I never was able to connect with the program. I think it had a lot to do with the amount of time given on it, but even more to do with just getting done with a major project. Not to mention it was the week before spring break.

For my design I wanted to keep it very simplistic and plausible for Gary to do. I changed out the front facade to a store front curtain wall allowing for natural light to pour inside. I also changed out the garage doors with a glass garage doors to allow for a modern look and again to bring in the natural lighting. For the interior I played with the idea of wind in the hair as you ride a motorcycle. I proposed wood pieces that would be fixed, but would look as if it the wind was blowing through the hair during the motorcycle ride. In this abstract way I was able to create a metaphor to work with the building.

TIME FOR SPRING BREAK!!!

Laser Cut

Last night Kirsten and I did a trial run with chip board and everything turned out pretty good. Need to arrange things to fit on our wood, but hopefully do final cuts tonight!

Sunday, February 28, 2010

We finished our digital modeling and now we are able to take the dimensions and put them into CAD. We have our boards in progress and Kirsten is working on our technical drawings.

I am playing with the facade of the building and trying to create sun shades to cover the south and south west walls. I pulled out the roof line and wall line on the main entry space to block the south west sun. Not sure if we are happy with the south west wall yet though. I haven't done anything with the complete grey wall.

Progress...

Kirsten and I have finally caught up with the schedule. We have our floor plans and sections all in Revit. The only thing we have to still look at is the facade of the business wing. We are assuming that it is going to be a continuous curtain wall, but we have to look at sun screens. The sun screens will be very important, since we are facing south and down in Crowley, Louisiana.

Studio...

Alright...
We are working on putting our plans into Revit. I have extended the back of the research wing to conjoin with the business wing. We still can't decide what the business wing will look like, so we are going to put that on hold.

Weekend Trip to Canada

This past weekend I took a trip up to Canada for a snow sculpture symposium. So I put off studio and enjoyed some time off. Here are some pictures of the sculptures.

Here is my idea of what the center corridor/entrance could be. Reflecting the research wind at the same time creating a center axis for the office wing.

Trying out blogging through my phone.... Hopefully this shows up on the Blog... Now I have no reason to stay up to date on my blogging

pin-ups tomorrow

For tomorrow we have pin-ups... I hope for tomorrow I have gotten an idea for the main entrance part of our building. I think it is going to relate to the research wing of the building. The entrance will look all the way through the building looking out to our main inspiration, which is the grids in the plots.

needs work!!

I am not sure how I like the part of the building in white... I don't know how well it connects to the other section of the building. Do you have any ideas Kirsten? I think the research wing relates back to our plots in a strong way, but the other wing needs more thought and relation back to the plots.

Process

SketchUp Model

Here is the start of the model... I am not sure what the other part wants to be yet, but I think that is the foot print that would line up with the plots.
